Schizophrenia

Patient has visions or thoughts that seem unreal. He also may partially or completely lose the ability to distinguish reality from such visions and the ability to concentrate.

Prevalence rate: According to the American Psychiatric Association, “the lifetime prevalence rate of schizophrenia is between 0.3% – 0.7%”.

Anxiety

Patients generally show dramatic differences in mood, energy levels and routine activities. The mood swings may last for few days or weeks and can also result in suicidal thoughts.

Prevalence Rate: According to National institute of mental health, “An estimated 4.4% of U.S. adults experience anxiety at some time in their lives.

Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that results from a complex interplay of social,psychological, and biological factors. People who go through adverse life events such as unemployment, bereavement, psychological events are more likely to develop depression. Manic or intense depressive episodes lead to elevated or irritable mood, over-activity, inflated self-esteem, and reduced need of sleep.

Prevalence rate: According to WHO, more than 300 million people of all age brackets suffer from some form of depression worldwide. Suicide is one of the biggest consequence of depression. About 800,000 people die due to suicide every year.

Morbidity Rate: According to CDC, morbidity percent of persons aged 12 years and over with depression in any 2-week period is 7.6% (2009-2012) 

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD)

PTSD is a mental disorder that affects people who have experienced a shocking or a dangerous event in their life. This commonly affects veterans, survivors of sexual assault, abuse, accidents,natural disasters, or even terrorist attacks. Re-experiencing the bad events inform of nightmares and flashback, avoiding situations that remind of a past event, hyper arousal, feeling of hopelessness, excessive drinking or drug problems, etc.

Prevalence rate: According to National Center for PTSD, approximately 7 of every 100 people will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. PTSD is more prevalent in women than men.  

Morbidity rate: According to International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), approximately 80% of people with PTSD have a co-occurring psychiatric disorder.
